Didn't come with the AC adapter or USB, but was able to use ones from the 350. Especially like the absence of the "flip-up" antenna on the 350. But for the money, this is a very good unit for an old "technology challenged" guy.Paid over $300 for the 350, and got this for just over $100 on Amazon - arrived 3 days after I ordered - excellent service as usual. I bought this unit to replace a Nuvi 350 that I gave to my kids as they didn't have a GPS. Have used only a few times, but seems easier to use. Thought I could change the "voice" using USB and Garmingarage, but haven't been able to - maybe I'm not doing it right.
Downloading map update did take a long time, but at least it was free. It does what it's supposed to do extremly well. It was shipped very quickly from Amazon using free super saver shipping. Easily 5 stars for the price. Reviewers should not be docking stars because it lacks features you're not paying for. This is an easy recommendation.
You have to buy the wall charger if you need one, no softcase either for its screen protection.Overall, I am very happy with this purchase. Less clutter on my dashboard. Like my previous Magellan Maestro 4040 at US$300, this GPS can categorize your "Favorites" addresses in separate files you created. The name of the street you are currently on is not displayed. 4. It seems that the rechargeable Li-Ion battery lasts a long time.
Its suction cup is a lot smaller than my Magellan Maestro.7. 3. In city driving, it gave me three messages so as not to miss that turn.4. Slide show is cool too.9.
I am a tech savvy and I found updating the Map very difficult. Great for bike or foot navigation.8. Downloading a two-gigabyte map file is very time consuming. Add that to a not so User-Friendly website created a horrible experience. Example, I created a folder, "Stores" to put the addresses of Costco, BestBuy, Home Depot, RV World, etc.2.
For a little over a hundred bucks, you won't find a better GPS this great. Now, the Not so good things:1. Case squeaks when the volume is a bit loud, though I do not think the voice is distorted.6. Out of the box, the GPS needs a map update. I am loving this feature. It does not give you the option of inputting the ZIP Code, you have to spell the City alphabetically.3. I am seeing everything I need in the "Points of Interest." I will be using this feature more often than I expected.6.
No need to buy a high-end model. It gave me the wrong information of the destination stating on the right when actually it was on the left side of the street.5. Speed Limit displayed over the Actual Speed is very helpful. Fast route and reroute time.5. Just insert the Micro SD with your pictures and it will read automatically.
I am now a new Garmin fan. I am looking forward to its fun use. The Good things first:1. Small size but I can read all the words it displays considering I do not have a perfect vision. 2.
It is nicer than the larger Garmin GPS unit my MIL has. This is the nicest GPS I have found. It has great battery life, the display is awesome, and everything is correct.
The Garmin 255 is exactly like my old one but better. My 3 year old Garmnin GPS started having battery problems. Being familiar with GPS I looked and many different models and decided on the the 255 and I am glad I did.
